The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) on 30th November, 2016 held their annual general meeting at the POWA National Secretariat, Asokoro, Abuja.
2. The wife of the Inspector General of Police and 19th POWA president, Princess Asmau Ndayako K. Idris in her first annual general meeting since assuming office hosted wives of Deputy Inspectors General of Police who are part of the management team and wives of other senior police officers.
3. In her opening remarks, she welcomed all members and thanked Almighty Allah for bringing them safely to Abuja from their respective states. She gave a brief history of the association stating that the organization was formed in 1964 by wife of the then Inspector General of Police, Mary Edet.
4. In her foresight to improve the ideas and develop the Association, Princess Asmau Ndayako K. Idris said the current leadership of POWA had concluded plans to build a hospital and maternity in Akwanga, Nassarawa State; embark on an environmental hygiene project tagged “Our Barracks Go Clean” which would be flagged off in a few days’ time.
5. She further highlighted the aims and objectives of POWA as contained in their constitution and urged the officers’ wives to always abide strictly by the constitution of the association. In addition, she used the opportunity to launch the new POWA constitution as the former was outdated and overdue for review.
6. In conclusion, she mentioned that adequate arrangement was in top gear to provide the educational needs of Police families in Kuje and its environs.
